CranioSacral Therapy

Therapist's Note:

I am pleased to offer CranioSacral Therapy to my clients, as it is a very gentle treatment method that connects with the body's central nervous system, and can address conditions that many traditional treatment methods and medicine cannot.  It improves circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that surrounds the brain and spinal column, contained within the meninges (membranes), and gently encourages movement of skull bones to their appropriate alignment.  The CSF lubricates and nourishes the core nerve center of our body, and if the circulation of fluid is not optimal, our body will display symptoms we may not understand.  I did my CranioSacral Therapy (CST) training at the source: Upledger Institute, where CST was developed by John Upledger.

Various factors can cause issues with our brain and spinal column-- simply falling and hitting our tailbone on the ground will jolt the entire spine and head because they are directly connected.  This one type of incident can cause headaches, back pain, pain in another area of the body that we do not associate with this injury, nausea, dizziness, and on.  It may occur within a short time of the injury, or the injury may not manifest as outward physical symptoms until its effect magnifies over time.

In the book Working Wonders: Changing Lives with CranioSacral Therapy, there are literally hundreds of amazing stories where CranioSacral therapists have resolved physical symptoms when traditional medicine and other treatments have failed.  Whether the cause lies in the bones of the skull, the meninges, or a restriction within the whole central nervous system, CranioSacral Therapy performs gentle treatment in areas and ways that medicine and skeletal adjustments do not.

I'd like to share an example from Working Wonders, that originated with a child's traumatic birth.   If a baby is unable to pass through the birth canal and the head and neck are twisted/forced, the forceps applied to the sides (parietal or temporal lobes), or a suction cup gets snapped onto the crown of the baby's head as if to suck its brain through the fontanelle, any of these methods can cause extremely harmful effects that appear in mystifying symptoms.  This one case study (pp 59-61), was a child who had experienced a traumatic suction birth and experienced the first ten years of her life with the frontal bone laying ON TOP OF her parietal bones of the head.  Over time, this manifested as ADD/ADHD, constant headaches, chronic ear infections and social withdrawal.  The parents had tried various medicinal treatments, including Ritalin, but none worked well.  Her school wanted to move her to a learning disabled program because of her behavioral and social problems.  When the parents brought her for CranioSacral Therapy, the practitioner discovered the misalignment of the bones, and in one session, the treatment not only reversed the ADD/ADHD diagnosis, but eliminated the ear infections and the girl thrived in school with As and Bs.  The school principal called the parents to find out what they had done because she was a completely new, amazingly normal girl!

From infancy to elderly age, our central nervous system is an wondrous, uniquely intelligent part of our body that has its own treatment needs.  CranioSacral Therapy resolves impingements of the bones and meninges that can prevent efficient circulation of the the CSF.  Regular treatments maintain optimally circulating CSF and address any new blocks that may reduce circulation.

Adding CranioSacral Threapy treatments to your health regimen is the best way to open any restrictions in the central nervous system, and help you thrive to your highest potential!  I hope to share this gentle, effective treatment method with you.
